A young street kid grows up and becomes a cop when he realizes that crime doesn't pay. One of his childhood friends is in prison for a murder he didn't commit, and the cop looks for evidence to free him. Meanwhile, the prisoner's brother gets mixed up with a gang of counterfeiters, and inadvertently discovers the evidence that can set his brother free, if he can only get someone to believe him.

The boys are sent to a mountain camp. Stranded in a small rural town, they hear about a "monster killer" roaming the countryside. At night, they sneak out. Peewee is shot by a grave-digger, and they are forced to seek aid at an old mansion. The owner of the mansion (Lugosi), insists that the boys spend the night. After seeing PeeWee walk around the house in a trance, the boys decide that the man turned him into a zombie. They gang up on him and tie him up. The nurse at the boys camp (Dorothy Short) sets out to find the missing boys with Von Grosch (Dennis Moore), who has come to rid the town of the killer- or has he?

The East Side Kids find a young girl in the apartment of a man who has just been murdered. Believing her to be innocent, they hide her in their clubhouse while they try to find the real killer. The killer, however, used a baseball bat as his murder weapon, and the bat has the fingerprints of one of the gang on it.

Mr. Wise Guy

Mr. Wise Guy (the eighth in the East Side Kids series) finds the gang sent to the Wilton Reform School after they are unjustly convicted of stealing a truck. Bill Collins (Douglas Fowley), brother of co-leader Danny (Bobby Jordan), becomes involved in a killing and, while also innocent, is convicted and sentenced to death. Through a series of events, Muggs (Leo Gorcey), Glimpy (Huntz Hall), Danny and the rest of the gang, learn that Knobby (Billy Gilbert), a henchman of Luke Manning (Guinn Williams), knows something about the murder.

Muggs McGinnis, champion boxer of New York City's Eastside, is scheduled to box the Westside champion. In a pool game just before the match, he pulls a fast one on Harry Wycoff, local thug, and the latter decides to have Muggs kidnapped and place a winning bet on his opponent against whoever replaces Muggs. However, Danny Lyons, runner-up in the recent Eastside tournament, takes Muggs' place and wins the match. Believing Danny is the one who had him kidnapped, Muggs tries to pick a fight with Danny, who is in love with Muggs' sister, Ivy. Danny refuses to fight in the street. Danny and Ivy win a jitterbug competition and Muggs resentment against Danny is heightened when he blames Danny for his own disqualification. Danny joins the U.S. Army but Muggs is rejected on account of his age. Muggs sets out to frame Danny on a theft charge.

Muggs, ordered by a judge to get a job "or else", is hired by a society matron as the chauffeur for her wacky family. An engagement party is thrown for the family's daughter, and the rest of the gang is hired as servants for the party. However, a valuable necklace disappears during the festivities, and all the gang is blamed for the theft.

The gang is befriended by a millionaire whom they save from a mugging. However, they begin to suspect that the man's son was actually one of the muggers. Knowing that the boy's father is still grieving for an older son he lost during the war, and would be devastated if he learned his only remaining son was a criminal, the gang sets out to reform the boy.

After having been framed by gamblers, Muggs is barred from riding in horse races. Snce he can no longer race, he takes up a collection so Ma Brown, who owns the horses won't have her stable foreclosed on. However, one of the gamblers involved in the frame falls for Ma Brwn's daughter, and decides to come clean and confess to the police about the frame. The other gamblers hear about it and set out to shut him up and discredit Muggs and Ma Brown once and for all.
