Assuming it's a drug deal, they fear being attacked if they take the money, but utterly broke Joel Booth sinks the boat and salvages the cash, which they bury in the woods. After Thomas Wellington's decapitation at the wedding rehearsal, Henry is shown Abbi's proof, including a corpses stash shown to her by J.D., that her father, the sheriff, must be working on the assumption that John Wakefield either lives or has a copycat, perhaps a former accomplice. J.D. is locked up after claiming he saw Wakefield, a digging up seems to disprove that. Trish's sister Shea wickedly divulges her husband Richard's affair with her mother, which daughter Madison meanly helps paint wrongly to incriminate her father to the sheriff. Calvin and Chloe come to terms with his 'lost' diamond engagement ring. Sully and his mates feel trapped as potential murder suspects.

Sheriff Mills questions JD in prison about Cole Harkin and JD tells him his whereabouts in the woods. Sheriff Mills goes to the woods but hits a trip wire and is hit by an arrow in the thigh. When he comes through he's in Cole's cabin and Cole tells him that he believes there is someone imitating Wakefield's crimes as he found a journal which would make it easy to do so. Before he can say anymore Cole is killed. Elsewhere, J.D. escapes from prison after Deputy Garrett is shot dead. Meanwhile, most of the wedding guests make it off the island but the main guests stay behind to look for the missing Madison. Whilst out looking for Madison, Henry & Abby find Richard's speared body masted to a tree and straight after Abby receives a call from Madison telling her if the rest of the guests leave the island Madison will be killed. Jimmy & Abby rescue Sheriff Mills and goes down to the marina where Abby finds a stabbed J.D. who tells her the killings are all about her before he dies. From behind her a distraught Henry appears covered in J.D.'s blood.

JD's killing at the marina spreads renewed fear around. The fainting sheriff and papers found in JD's pocket fitting a partially burnt journal ultimately make Aby realize that she may be the key, as her mother had an adulterous child, probably her. Even Sully, who decided against sneaking off the island, now openly questions her role. Shane is brought to the fold by prime suspect JD's death, so henry can assume charge. Only Trish, who agreed to wait for the state police, sneaks off by stealing Shane's truck. Meanwhile the boys and Abby find and penetrate a tunnel system from the Prohibition era. Splitting up inside, they find Beh's corpse and the room where Madison stayed, according to her told her abduction was a game.

Documentation and tunnel maps found in the missing sheriff's room make even Abby fear he's the killer and Madison's manipulative 'new friend'. Henry gathered the survivors to leave the island by yacht, but when two state troopers arrive to collect J.D., they are snipered, the yacht booby-trapped with the sheriff's oxygen, which almost blows up Shane. Jimmie, who was with him, is later delivered alive to Henry's barricaded party, with a cryptic message which seems to summon Abby. While brave Cal and driver Sully nearly die during a medical evacuation, the sheriff dies explaining to his daughter about a deal and the real killer.

Having allowed the sheriff to explain to Abby before his execution, John Wakefield openly continues hunting down the others, only Jimmy is safely delivered and nursed successfully, only now Madison admits he was her 'new friend' from the start. Shane is slashed to death in a duel, allowing most girls to escape and find the tunnel plans in the secret study. Wakefield sneakily captured Chloe, mainly as bait, irresistible for Cal, who returned with Sully as the sailing yacht is gone, leaving them stranded now a storm knocked out all communication. The papers suggest Wakefield, who kills Cal, may have a surprising accomplice.

Wakefield is finally trapped, caught, belt-cuffed and jailed by Sully, whose acolyte Danny he'll later strangle to escape after telling Abby her mother bore his son, whom he tracked down. That fits the accomplice theory, supported belated by Madison's admission they were brought food while in the tunnels. Jimmy is the prime suspect, yet alone with Tris he keeps her safe and is wrongly mistrusted when calling the others for help after she fell down a cliff. After the mystery accomplice attacks the survivors again, he reveals himself only to the least suspecting potential victim when the coast guard is already contacted once Sully has repaired a boathouse radio.
