In New York, Peter Petrelli is the younger brother of Nathan Petrelli, an overly ambitious and unscrupulous candidate for the next New York congressman. Peter begins having strange dreams and begins to believe that he can fly, but Nathan is skeptic to his younger brother's claims. Peter decides to prove his theory and jumps from the roof of a building in an alley and his brother flies and saves him... revealing that Nathan has the ability to fly, not Peter. In Texas, cheerleader Claire Bennet learns that she is literally indestructible and can not harm herself or die. She saves a fireman from a fire on a derailed train, but does not take the credit. In Tokyo, Hiro Nakamura believes he can control time and space continuum and goes on a quest to convince his co-worker, Ando, of his power. In India, Mohinder Suresh moves to Brooklyn, New York, where his father who was researching a secret project, called Genesis, about genome and DNA, is killed in a taxi cab. But a mysterious man wearing horn-rimmed glasses might pose a threat to him. In Lower Manhattan, artist Isaac Mendez paints pictures of the future in which his girlfriend and drug sponsor, Simone, is skeptic to his claims to see in the future. In Las Vegas, stripper Niki Sanders borrows $30,000 from a powerful local mobster to get her young son, Micah, into school, but does not have the money to pay back her loan. She sees a different image of her in the mirror, and when two gangsters come to her house to collect the money, one of them hits her and she faints. Later Niki wakes up, and the two thugs are dead... literally torn apart by her evil alter ego Jessica. In Los Angeles, Matt Parkman is an overly ambitious beat policeman who discovers that he can 'read' peoples thoughts and is forced to help the FBI search for a wanted Saudi national, named Amid, who also discovers that he has the ability to create nuclear radiation in which his former AQ cell wants him to build a nuclear bomb for them. In Utah, Niki's husband and Micah's father, D.L. imprisoned for robbery charges, discovers that he can literally 'walk' through walls.

Chapter One 'Genesis'
In this episode, we are introduced to Peter Petrelli, a young man who dreams of flying, and his brother Nathan, a ruthless politician who thinks that Peter is dreaming his life away. Meanwhile, ordinary people from all around the world are starting to suspect that they have abilities beyond those of normal humans. Artist Isaac Mendez believes that he is painting the future, high school cheerleader Claire Bennet is suddenly able to recover from any wound almost instantly, Japanese businessman Hiro Nakamura tries to convince a friend that he can bend space and time, and single mother Niki Sanders starts seeing strange things in mirrors. Upon learning of his father's death, genetics Professor Mohinder Suresh begins to look into his research for a clue to why he was killed. When he follows his father's trail to New York City, however, Mohinder learns that someone else is on the trail of the same research. Someone who may kill to protect the secrets of the next step in human evolution.

Chapter Four 'Collision'
Hiro and Ando arrive to Vegas, where they gamble and win thanks to Hiro's powers. Niki is also taken to Las Vegas, where the mob boss she owes money to wants her to pay. Mohinder meets with Pete, who in the meanwhile, is starting to think that his power is absorbing powers of other people. Claire, after escaping the autopsy room, takes a dark turn in dealing with the quarterback who tried to rape her. Nathan is going to Las Vegas too, and he is seduced by Niki, who is ordered to sleep with him by the mob boss, so he can blackmail Nathan with inappropriate photos. In the end, a message comes from a dark and evil future.

Chapter Six 'Better Halves'

Isaac receives another phone call, but things start to make sense when he doesn't have to answer it.

Chapter Eleven 'Fallout'
The question on everyone's mind regarding the cheerleader is that, since she's still alive, does the bomb still go off? This is especially true for Hiro, who meets with Isaac to discuss their next course of action. Having confessed her abilities to her father, Claire seeks other answers that her friends and family can not give. Having captured Sylar, Claire's father keeps him in a room of total darkness, totally unaware of Sylar's true strength.

Chapter Thirteen 'The Fix'
Peter Petrelli learns the man in his dream is one of them and has the power to stay invisible. Niki Sanders is given a shot to sedate her. Hiro is determined to find the Samurai Sword. Nathan Petrelli goes to Mohinder Suresh to see if he can help Peter control his power. Zach goes to help Claire Bennet hack her father's computer in order to learn about her real mom and dad, but he and Claire are forced to lie about why he is there when Mr. Bennet comes home from work early. When Hiro Nakamura and Ando go to pick up the car, they are taken hostage. A psychiatrist visits Niki in prison to get her to confront her "multiple personality disorder". D.L. tells his son, Micah, that he is having money problems. The Haitian tells Claire that, according to Mr. Bennet, her biological mother died in an explosion. Zach shows Claire the paper about hers and her mom's apparent death. The kidnappers tell Hiro they want Ando and him to go back to Japan and stop their mission immediately. The Invisible Man comes to help Peter hide from Nathan and Mohinder when they come to his apartment. D.L. sneaks into the prison and tries to convince Niki to escape. Micah uses his power to withdraw $10,000 from an ATM. Claire calls someone she thinks to be her dead mother's sister, but is surprised to find out it is her real mom. Mr. Bennet goes to the secret lab to get Sylar's dead body ready for shipping but finds the doctor dead and Sylar standing waiting for him.

Chapter Fourteen 'Distractions'

Hiro Nakamura is trying to convince his dad Mr. Nakamura to let him complete his mission. Sylar has gone to the Bennet home to wait for Claire when her when her step mom comes home and Sylar lies that he works at the paper factory. Claire see's her real mom has the ability to start fire. after Sylar attacks Claire step mom Mr. Bennet comes in with the Haitian and shoots at Sylar but he escapes. Niki is released from prison after a Nevada Death Row Inmate Confesses that he killed her victims. after Peter fights with the invisible man he is thrown off building and Isaac's painting of the taxi comes true. Peter Consentraits and uses Claire power to save himself. we find out Nathan Petrelli is Claire's real father

Chapter Fifteen 'Run!'
While the scandalous truth about Claire's real father is revealed, her adoptive mother faces a crisis. Matt takes a job as a bodyguard for a crooked attorney, which puts him in the cross hairs of Linderman's new assassin. Chapter One 'Four Months Later...'
It is now four months since the fateful events at Kirby Plaza. Claire Bennet and her family have relocated to Costa Verde, Californa. She agrees with her father that it is essential she keep a low profile, but finds it difficult when when challenged by some of the students at her new school. Hiro finds himself in 17th Century Japan where he gets to meet his hero, Takezo Sensei. It turns out however that he may not live up to his legendary reputation. Nathan and Peter Petrelli's mother and Hiro's father both receive death threats from the same mysterious source. Two new characters are desperately trying to make their way from their Central American home to the USA. Suresh accepts an offer from a organization to fund his research into those with exceptional abilities.

Chapter Two 'Lizards'
At the behest of his new employers, Dr. Suresh travels to Haiti to treat a potential virus victim. The patient turns out to be a familiar face. Claire's secret may be out when a fellow student sees her regenerate a limb; that student may have his own secret however. Matt Parkman investigates a murder that affects one one of the Heroes. In 17th century Japan, Hiro is doing his best to ensure that Takezo Sensei lives up to his reputation. He has to take things into his own hands however. In Ireland, Peter Petrelli finds himself with no memory but re-discovering some of his many powers. Maya and her brother reach the Guatemala-Mexico border in their quest to travel to the USA.

Chapter Three 'Kindred'
Now back from Haiti, Dr. Suresh finds that his new lab in New York is Isaac Mendez's old loft. He finds the 8th of Isaac's paintings but it holds bad news for a major character. Claire is concerned that her classmate will reveal her secret but he reveals a secret of his own. Peter Petrelli assists his newfound friends and begins to question whether he wants to know his identity and his past. Still in 17th century Japan, Hiro forces the issue with Takezo Kensei in order to ensure that he lives up to his legendary status. Niki Sanders travels to New Orleans to leave Micah with a relative. Maya and her brother reach Mexico, but she has to get him out of jail.

Chapter Four 'The Kindness of Strangers'
In New York, Angela Petrelli pleads guilty to a crime Matt Parkman knows she didn't commit. He also discovers a photo that includes Angela, Hiro's father and to his great surprise, his own father. When he asks Molly to locate his father for him, she is terrified since it's the same man who comes after her in her nightmares. Micah is settling in with his new family in New Orleans and a new hero is introduced. Maya and Alejandro have escaped from jail but pick up someone along the way who says he can help them. Claire lies to her father when she goes out with her new friend.

Chapter Five 'Fight or Flight'
In New Orleans, Monica struggles with the knowledge of her 'copycat' powers after Micah discovers her abilities and persuades her to practice using them. Meanwhile, Matt and Nathan travel to Philadelphia to find Matt's father whom is connected to Molly's comatose state, and learn a little too late about the abilities of this new 'villian'. In Ireland, Peter struggles more with finding out of his history, while a mysterious and sinister young woman, named Elle, who has the ability to project lethal electro-energy bolts, shows up looking for Peter. In Japan, Ando has a researcher read more of Hiro's notes about his travels with Takezo Kensei and Yaeko back in 1671. Also, Suresh is forced to take the comatose Molly for treatment at 'the Company' and learns that Niki is staying there.

Chapter Six 'The Line'
Having lied to her father about joining the cheerleaders, Claire decides the time has come to teach the team captain a lesson when she is told that she didn't make the squad. Having convinced Monica to come to New York, Dr. Suresh isn't at all comfortable when the Company asks him use her as a guinea pig for a variant of the vaccine. The Company backs down but he learns that Niki Sanders has been assigned to work with him. Alejandro and Maya make it to the US border only to be stopped by a citizens border patrol unit. Having painted a Menendez-like painting, Peter Petrelli heads for Montreal to see if they can get some clues as to who Peter really is. Hiro may ruin the time-line when he gives in to temptation and kisses Yaeko only to learn that Takezo Kensei was watching them. HRG man and the Haitian visit an old colleague from the Company in an attempt to locate Isaac Mendez's last paintings. They show that they are more than ready to use violence to get what they want.

Chapter Seven 'Out of Time'
Peter Petrelli finds himself in a future New York City where a virus has devastated the world's population. As he gradually regains him memory, he recognizes his mother who urges him to use his Hiro-like powers to go back in time and stop the virus before it begins. Claire and West's relationship reaches a crisis point when West realizes that her father is the same man who once kidnapped him. Suresh's loyalty to HRG man is starting to wear thin and he finally admits what he has been up to. Nathan learns that brother Peter is alive. Matt Parkman finally confronts his father in an attempt to release Molly from her coma-like state. Having fallen out completely with Takezo Kensei, Hiro attacks White Beard's camp. A new character with a familiar face, Adam Monroe, is revealed as one of the founders of the company.

Chapter Eight 'Four Months Ago...'
In flashbacks, we learn what happened to the heroes in the four months after the events at Kirby Plaza. Maja learns of her deadly powers at her brother Alejandro's wedding. Niki starts a Company-sponsored drug program but stops taking the medication only to realize that another hidden personality has emerged. Imprisoned by the Company, Peter Petrelli meets the now familiar Adam Monroe and we learn how he ended up in the shipping container destined for Ireland.

Chapter Nine: Cautionary Tales
Hiro learns of his father's death and travels back in time to save him only to realize that he must let events unfold as fate intended. He does however recognize his father's killer. Matt Parkman realizes that he has the ability to implant thoughts in other people's minds. He wants to know the identity of the woman in the photo with his father. When Bob and Suresh kidnap Claire Bennet, HRG and West set out to rescue her but get their own bargaining chip beforehand.

Chapter Ten 'Truth & Consequences'
Peter Petrelli and Adam Monroe track down another founding member of the Company and learn the location of virus 183. Maya learns how to control her powers but Alejandro' distrust of Sylar leads to a deadly confrontation. Niki returns to New Orleans and tells Micah about her medical condition. When his backpack is stolen, Micah and Monica set off to retrieve it, but things don't work out as planned. Hiro decides to avenge his father's death and goes after Adam. Claire, grieving over her father's death, decides to go public with her powers in a bid to stop the Company.

Chapter One 'The Second Coming'
In order to change the course of history, a scared and cynical Peter Petrelli travels back in time from four years to the day his brother Nathan revealed the existence of the super-humans and was the one who shot him. In attempting to capture future Peter, Matt Parkman gets teleported to a desolate African landscape. In Japan, Hiro takes control of his father's company when, courtesy of a DVD, he and Ando receive instructions from Hiro's late father about a deadly secret contained in the office safe. Hiro can't help but open the safe and the contents are promptly stolen by a "speedster"; a woman with super-fast speed called Daphne. Meanwhile, Nathan undergoes a religious experience while recovering from the shooting and is offered a new job in Congress by a shady blond government woman named Tracy Strauss, someone who looks remarkably like the late Niki Sanders. Elsewhere, Sylar confronts Claire, whose alone in her house, in a bid to get hold of her powers.

Chapter Two 'The Butterfly Effect'
A egotistical and super-charged Sylar goes to the Company to kill all the leaders, and inadvertently releases 12 super-powered criminals from the place's notorious Level 5 prison block during a fight with Elle. Peter, trapped in the body of one of the criminals, is set free as well and is forced to team up with a group for a crime spree. Meanwhile, Future Peter tries to fix his mistake with Nathan, as Angela takes over the company in the wake of Bob Bishop's murder and frees Noah Bennett to help the Company track down the 12 escapees and bring them back or eliminate them. In California, Claire learns more about her powers as she recovers from Sylar's attack. Hiro and Ando travel to Paris to track down speedster Daphne Milbrook who robbed them and learn that she is working for a darker power. In New York, Maya discovers that Mohinder's injection has changed him by making him super-strong, but also altered his personality. In Africa, Matt meats Usutu, an African shaman with a familiar power of painting the future. Elsewhere, Tracy learns that she has the power to super-freeze anyone and anything while dealing with a hounded tabloid reporter seeking any dirt on her and the shady Governor Maldon who are continuing to groom Peter for a position in the U.S. Congress.

Chapter Three 'One of Us, One of Them'
Tracy Strauss is having difficulty coming to grips with her powers and what she has done. She travels to New Orleans and meets Micah who, using his own special powers, determines that his mother and Tracy were born on the same day and delivered by a Dr. Zimmerman. Nathan Petrelli starts his new job and meets the Peter Petrelli from the future. Present day Peter participates in an armed hold up with some of the others who have escaped from the Level 5 facility. Mrs. Petrelli teams HRG and Sylar and tasks them with tracking down the escapees. Claire's biological mother moves in with the family to protect Claire. Hiro and Ando teleport to Berlin as they try to track down the speedster who stole Hiro's half of the formula. There they see someone known to them. Matt Parkman continues his spirit walk in the African desert where he sees paintings depicting his past and his possible future.

Chapter Four 'I Am Become Death'
In the present day, Tracy Strauss visits Dr. Zimmerman and learns of her origins. She is having trouble coming to grips with what she has done but Nathan rescues her. Having injected himself, Suresh continues his transformation. Matt Parkman continues his spirit walk and sees the paintings of his future. Hiro and Ando find themselves imprisoned in Level 5 but Mrs. Petrelli tells Hiro he has the key to unlocking the mystery. Four years into the future, both Peter Petrellis find themselves hunted by Claire. It's a world where anyone who can afford it can simply inject themselves in order to have superpowers. Present day Peter visits Suresh and tries to locate Sylar. When he does find him, he's not quite what he expected. He also tries to warn his brother, who is now President of the United States.

Chapter Six 'Dying of the Light'
Hiro uses his ability to stop time when he's forced to "kill" Ando in order to be recruited by Daphne. He is then assigned to go to Africa and return with the precog painter who has been showing Matt Parkman the future. Claire goes after her biological mother who is chasing down one of the escapees, but her adoptive mother decides to go along. They are faced with a daunting choices. Arthur Petrelli re-appears and has a surprise for Adam Monroe. Daphne's next assignment is to recruit Matt. She also tries to recruit Sylar and Suresh. Nathan and Tracy visit Suresh who decides to continue his experiments on them.

Chapter Seven 'Eris Quod Sum'
Tracy and Nathan try to save themselves from a dangerous Mohinder who wants to use their synthetic power laced DNA to find a way to remove Mayas/his own powers. Mohinder turns to the dangerous, power-stealing Arthur Petrelli to help Maya, and in return, Mr. Petrelli asks for Mohinder's help in developing the secret formula to give people powers. Meanwhile, Sylar is given the task by the comatose Angela to save Peter from Arthur at Pinehearst, where he was captured and rendered powerless by his him. Also, Daphne is ordered by Mr. Petrelli to kill Matt, but finds the task difficult as she begins falling in love with him as he predicted. In Africa, Hiro is still searching for answers from the spiritual painter about who is behind Pinehearst and what their nefarious plans are for the world. In California, Elle approaches Claire and asks for her help to control her powers which leads to both of them forming an uneven alliance to venture to Pinehearst in New Jersey to find answers. Chapter Eight 'Villains'
Under the guidance of Usutu, Hiro has a vision back in time one year ago to determine what forced Arthur Petrelli to fake his death and create Pinehearst. Chapter Nine 'It's Coming'
Barely escaping from the evil and powerful Arthur Petrelli, Ando forces Hiro to teleport them back to Japan only to discover that Mr. Petrelli has erased most of Hiro's mind and who thinks he's 10-years-old, and still in school. Ando must try find a way to make Hiro remember his powers. Meanwhile, Sylar tries to reason with the captive Elle to force out her anger and to learn how to take her powers without killing her. Mr. Petrelli sends Knox and Flint out after Claire and Peter who try to find a way to outwit their pursuers. Matt Parkman tries to scan the comatose Angela Petrelli's mind to try to save her and learns that Daphne is a double-agent assigned to watch over him and that Mr. Petrelli has something against her. While Suresh continues to unsuccessfully search for the secret to the formula to give people powers, Nathan and Tracy pay a visit to Pinehurst where they meet with the manipulative Arthur Petrelli who offers Nathan the world in exchange for his loyalties and help. Nathan declines, but Tracy, eager to gain more power in politics, accepts.

Chapter Ten 'The Eclipse Part 1'
Having reestablished control over the Company, Angela sends Nathan and Peter to Hatai to find the power-suppressing Hatian to bring him back to the USA to help in their fight against Arthur Petrelli and the evil Pinehurst. Hiro and Ando travel to New York to come back into the fold and ask for Parkman's help. Hiro, having lost part of his mind, but not his powers, teleports himself, Ando and Parkman to Kansas to Daphine's home to find out what Mr. Petrelli has on her. Also, Sylar teams up with Elle to try to capture Claire to bring her to Pinehurst to give her to Suresh to experiment on as the missing catalyst to the formula. But everything changes when a prolonged solar eclipse happens, which renders the heroes and villains powerless, stranding Peter and Nathan in Haiti with the Hatian who is trying to capture the powerful Voodoo witchdoctor Baron Samedi. In Kansas, Parkman must find a way into the Millbrook house without his mind-reading powers, and learns what Daphine is without her super-speed powers. In California, the powerless Elle and Syler try to capture Claire, who accidentally gets shot, and Nathan seeks revenge.

Chapter Eleven 'The Eclipse - Part 2'
In Haiti, Peter and the Haitian try to rescue Nathan who has been captured by the sinister Baron Samdei and his militia army. In California, the powerless Claire is taken to the hospital dying from her wounds, while Sylar and Elle turn from hunters to the hunted when the vengeful Mr. Bennet attempts to track them down to kill them.

Chapter Twelve 'Our Father'
Having traveled back in time 16 years, the immature Hiro seeks out his late mother to try to get his memories back, while Claire has a run-in with a younger Noah Bennett when he was assigned by the company to look after the infant Claire and how she may have become the catalyst for the secret formula. Back in the present, Nathan returns to Pinehurst where Tracy introduces him to a group of U.S. Marines that Arthur has recruited to be his army of super-solders once Mohinder gets the catalyst for the ability-giving formula correct and which hopes the formula will be able to cure his disease... and begin Mr. Petrelli's quest for world domination. Peter and the Hatian return to New York and are sent by Angela in desperate attempt to break into Pinehurst to kill Arthur Petrelli before he can complete the formula. Meanwhile, Ando, Parkman, and Daphne seek out a bicycle messenger who may have the last '9th Wonders' comic book works to learn more about the future and where Hiro is and what to do to save him. Elsewhere, Sylar goes rogue once again by disposing of Elle, and then decides to go after both the heroes and villains to steal their powers for himself.

Chapter Thirteen 'Dual'
Noah, Claire, Angela, and Meredith find themselves trapped at the Primatech by Sylar who locks them in the building and subjects them all to various mind games. Meanwhile, Matt, Daphne, and Ando seek refuge at the Mendez loft where Daphne plans to steal a sample of the power-giving formula to give to Ando who wants to rescue the powerless Hiro still trapped 16 years in the past, who continues to struggle to find his true origins with his younger self. Back in the present, Peter faces off against Nathan, Tracy and the security detail at Pinehurst to stop Mohinder from reproducing the formula, and finds allies in the form of Knox as well as Flint who also want to stop the production of the formula, leading to a fiery showdown for all.

Chapter One 'A Clear and Present Danger'
Two months after the destruction of both the Primatech and Pinehurst, and the death of Arthur Petrelli, the now-villainous Nathan returns with a vengeance by persuading the U.S. President and the government to round up all people with abilities for containment and disposal, leading to Claire, Ando, Peter, as well as Tracy to become fugitives from the people who were their former allies. In Japan, a powerless Hiro tries to live through the super-charger Ando as his latest partner. In New York, Peter struggles to find a life for himself as a paramedic, but finds that his cannot hide from his past. Chapter Two 'Trust and Blood'
Following the plane crash, the surviving heroes must team up with one another to try to survive the manhunt. Claire is quickly captured by Noah who takes charge of a "kill squad" to find the remaining people with abilities while Nathan deals with the overzealous 'hunter' Emile Danko whom becomes obsessed with tracking down all people with special abilities in his own lethal way. Mohinder and a powerless Hiro must rely on Matt Parkman's spiritual guide to help them. Daphne makes contact with Ando to help her find Matt, unaware of the people now targeting them. In New Jersey, Syler takes refuge in the house of an agent and tortures him to try to get information to what's going on and he forms an unlikely alliance with the agent's son Luke Campbell. Also, Peter teams up with Tracy to look for help, while she begins having second thoughts about running.

Hiro, Ando, and Matt travel to India to find a new ally with abilities to help them survive. In California, Claire faces the wrath of her father.

Chapter Four 'Cold Wars'
Peter, Matt, and Mohinder drug and abduct Noah "H.R.G." Chapter Five 'Exposed'
Following a tip from their anonymous source "Rebel", Matt and Peter hurry to rescue Daphne from the holding facilities in 'Building 26' in Washington, and to find evidence that may expose the government's plans to capture those with powers. Chapter Six 'Shades of Gray'
Now on his own, Sylar finally finds his biological father, Samson Gray, a reclusive, lung-cancer ridden taxidermist, to confront him with questions about his past, but soon learns that Samson is not who he appears to be. Meanwhile, Nathan continues to lock horns with Danko over the hunter's tactics to eliminate people with abilities, after he tries to frame Parkman for an attempted suicide bombing. This leads to both Nathan and Danko going behind each others back to unseat the other. Nathan becomes wary about Danko going rogue and the hunter interrogating Tracy, as well as Nathan's mother, Angela, about Nathan's own ability. In California, Claire takes Alex's old job at the comic book store where she is given a message by 'Rebel' to help out her former nemesis, the puppet master Eric Doyle, when he too is targeted by rogue agents. Also, Hiro and Ando return to California where they are led by clue from Rebel... to an infant Matt Parkman.

Chapter Eleven 'I Am Sylar'
Sylar begins to feel confused and more uncertain about himself when his new shape-changing powers begins to get out of control. He begins to imagine his late mother giving him advice on what to do, while Danko continues to use him to find and kill people with abilities and wants to zero in on 'Rebel'. When Sylar discovers that Rebel is in fact Micah Sanders, he saves him. Sylar decides to change his ways after figuring out that Danko is plotting a so-called 'Final Solution' to exterminate all people with abilities once and for all. Meanwhile, Parkman plans to return to his home in California with his infant son unaware that there are more kill-squad agents after him, Hiro and Ando rashly decide to make a heroic, and probably futile, attempt to make an assault on Building 26.
