Uncle Phil comes home late from the office with the news that he's getting The Urban Spirit Award. In celebration, Phil's parents come in from North Carolina for a visit, and Will is delighted to learn the truth about his uncle, beginning with the information that his real name is Zeke, he was raised on a farm in North Carolina (not Baltimore), and that his best friend as a child was a pig named Melvin. When a reporter comes around to do a story on Uncle Phil, she finds nothing of interest and is ready to kill the story until Will steps in with some juicier facts. The next morning, Uncle Phil reads about his humiliating past in the newspaper and is ready to murder Will before his mother intervenes, questioning why he would hide his past and try to pass himself off as something he's not. At a formal dinner in his honor, his mother refuses to talk to him - she even passes out okra, biscuits and fried chicken to the stuffy people at the table, which they love. Phil comes to realize that his past is part of who he is and what he's accomplished.

Def Poet's Society
Aunt Viv suggests that Will find something creative to do after school like join one of the clubs. He laughs it off until Uncle Phil suggests that he get a job - suddenly, the club idea looks pretty good. Following his libido, he follows the girls into the poetry club. Freestyling the works of a made-up street poet called Raphael de la Ghetto he manages to woo the girls in the club who want to hear more, especially the club president Christina. She's so taken with his work that she gets him to promise that he'll bring Raphael to the club meeting. In over his head and without his phony poet, Geoffrey decides to step in and play the part. Several people in the audience recognize him, and the jig is up. Christina is angry with Will until Jazz steps forward and admits to being the real Raphael de la Ghetto - which gets him a date. At home, Will finds out that all of his poems have gotten everyone dates.

While going to the mall with the family is headed to the mall to buy costumes for Halloween, Carlton and Will make a bet on who can get a date first. Everyone gets distracted. Uncle Phil is coaxed into buying useless gadgets. Aunt Viv is coaxed into recording songs. Hilary is distracted by buying everything except a Halloween costume. And Will and Carlton get caught up in flashbacks to previous episodes. Finally, on the way out of a store, Hilary and Ashley are caught by mall security when they accidentally walk out of the store with an item they didn't pay for.

It's Geoffrey's birthday, and the family is going out of their way to make it a happy one, especially Will who gets the idea of setting him up on a blind date. After he and Jazz strike out at the mall, Ashley suggests her friend's Nanny who just came in from England. He gets a shock when the girl, named Helen, turns out to be a young, gorgeous woman that makes him jealous. At the club Helen and Geoffrey hit it off just fine, but Will makes a fool of himself and gets thrown out. At home, Geoffrey thanks the family for the fine birthday and returns Will generosity by giving him Helen's number - to which Will nearly knocks him down to get to the phone.

Talking Turkey
Will mother Vy comes to visit for Thanksgiving and is appalled that Vivian and Phillip let the kids make Geoffrey do all the work. When she gives Geoffrey and the gardener the day off, Vivian is appalled when Vy suggests that her children are spoiled. Phillip agrees, so Viv puts the kids to work cooking the Thanksgiving dinner. It's a disaster; Hilary overcooks the yams, Will under-cooks the turkey and Carlton turns the stuffing into soup. The family has a big laugh over the whole thing and Vivian and Vy come to an understanding about how she raises her kids.

Hilary blows the whistle on Will when he comes home at 3am, to which Uncle Phil revokes his car privileges. Vowing revenge, Will starts doing some snooping and finds that Hilary dropped out of college three months ago. When he confronts her, she has to give in to his every humiliating demand lest Will blow the whistle. At dinner, the whole thing comes apart as Hilary is forced to admit what she did. Hilary and Will make up, but not before Will discovers that in doing his laundry she ruined his "lucky draws."

Nice Lady
Will wants to borrow the car go to a Ziggy Marley concert in Nevada but Uncle Phil and Aunt Viv forbid it. Meanwhile, Geoffrey's former employer Lord Fowler comes into town with his daughter, the proper Lady Penelope, and Will is instructed to take her to the opera. However, as soon as her parents are out of the room, she reveals herself to be a bad girl who wants to have a wild night, but Will refuses. So, she steals Phillips car and runs off to the worst bar in town. Will follows her there but gets into a fight with a tough guy who declares Penelope to be "his woman." He comes back home without her and tries to explain the situation to Geoffrey who panics and suggests that he and Will go back to the bar and bring her home. At the bar, they find the tough guy who is broken hearted that Penelope stole his bike and broke his heart. Geoffrey starts a fight, and again Will returns home without her. They try and explain the situation to Lord Fowler but just then Lady Penelope walks in and explains that they were at the opera all night.

Love at First Fight
Vivian invites one of her students Kayla Samuels over for dinner and Will immediately puts the moves on her by comparing their common backgrounds but she isn't impressed and wants nothing to do with him. In trying to apologize later it backfires and they end up in a "yo mama" battle which ends in mutual attraction. They start dating but Kayla's grades start to slip due to all the time she's spending with Will. When he tells Kayla, she gets mad at him from trying to control her life, but Aunt Viv steps in an reminds her of all she has to lose if she doesn't do well in school.

Banks Shot
Vivian goes to Berkley for the weekend leaving the kids behind with Phillip. Geoffrey is off duty so Hilary is left in charge of Carlton and Ashley. Will, however, is left in the care of Uncle Phil who forbids him to borrow the car, fearing that he will take it to some seedy pool hall. When he spots the keys unattended on the living room table, Will agrees with his conscience that he should go anyway. At the pool room, Will shows up nearly everybody in the joint with his mad skills, until he is spotted by a guy named Charlie Mack who challenges his game and his manhood (with more than a little encouragement from the fly honey who butters Will up). However, when the game goes sour, Will is stuck for the $500 that he owes after Charlie reveals that he is a hustler. Will tells the him that he's light on the cash, so the Charlie insists on the Benz as collateral. He goes home to get the money but his secret is revealed to Uncle Phil who insists on taking him back to the pool hall to get the money. At the pool hall, Charlie entices Phil into a game of which Phil quickly reveals that he knows nothing about. He loses, but Charlie asks for another game at $100 a ball. Phil accepts and suddenly reveals himself to be a seasoned pro who beats the hustler without even trying. At home, Uncle Phil tells Will that he forbade him from going to the pool hall, not because he wanted to wreck his fun but because he knows first-hand what goes on there.

Will makes a bet that Carlton wouldn't last a weekend in Jazz' neighborhood, Compton. Carlton starts to fulfill the bet, by not only fitting in, but getting along with the guys in "The Hood". Will has to find a way to stop him from going to MacArthur Park at night, to "Hang with the crew".

Just Infatuation
Ashley's birthday is right around the corner, and for her special day Hilary and Will have arranged for her to meet her latest crush, a boy singer named Little T. At the party, Ashley is humiliated first at Geoffrey who shows up as a clown, then at Will who tries and fails to get her friends involved in a dance game, then at Carlton who shows up as a magician. Suddenly, Little T shows up singing Happy Birthday to the birthday girl, who promptly faints. When she comes around, he and Ashley really hit it off. He asks her out and they start dating. Little T's agent makes it known that while his client is on tour, he has a lot of girlfriends. Will and Carlton follow her to the restaurant to see how things go. While Ashley is in the restroom, they confront Little T about what his agent said, and admits that this is, in fact, his first date. At home, the family admits that they overreacted and that they have to face up to the fact that Ashley is growing up.

Working It Out
Hilary takes a job as personal assistant to the famous actress Marissa Redman, a boisterous woman who is overbearing in her demands and treats her like dirt. Will and Jazz come by the office Marissa and takes an immediate liking to Will, so much so that she informs Hilary that either Will goes out on a date with her or Hilary is out of a job. When Hil brings that news home to Will, he accepts on one condition: That she go out with Jazz. They go out on a double-date, but Marissa makes a fool of herself and Hilary by berating her for not following her silly demands. Jazz stands up for her and Hilary quits. Will sees through Marissa's act and leaves her alone in the restaurant to brood.
