The action takes place in 1986 Chornobyl. Lera, a graduate of the pedagogical institute, gets a job placement as a junior school teacher in Prypyat, one of the coziest and well-maintained towns of the Soviet Union. Arriving at the bus station she discovers that her wallet was stolen. She doesn't have any money, even to send a telegram to her parents and to rent an apartment.
